We are Studio Terre, an experimental art studio in which art is created from the act of living. The creative flow instructs every aspect of the life of Nino, artist and co-founder together with Riccardo, and Jufa, another artist of the group.
What is the origin of your passion?
Our passion is “making art”, communicating something we feel and experience, from here we can say that it is an innate impulse, without a determined origin over time, it has always existed in us.
What is your mission?
Our mission is to stir something true in the observer, we try to send messages through our works, to communicate our philosophy. We therefore want the viewer to be struck by these and to stop and think. It is not in our interest to just create beautiful objects, we aim to leave a mark.
When you work on a project, where do you start?
When we work on a project we start with a feeling, usually it is because of this that you feel the need to communicate your thoughts. It is the creative process, you start from what you feel / experience at that moment, which is usually never something clear and begins to clear up little by little, up to the material realization of the work.
How would you define your style?
We are Mediterranean. We want to take you to the unique, utopian place where our vision of the world and of things is. By creating unique pieces, without creative constraints, art, craftsmanship and design come together. Without setting ourselves, therefore, limits in terms of materials, techniques and tools to be used in order to communicate our vision: the need to return to a Mediterranean way of life, linked to the origins. We communicate our way of life through the philosophy of slow design. We embrace this to move further and further away from the frenzy and alienation that today’s society covertly imposes on you. We try to return to more natural rhythms.
What inspires you?
What inspires us are our “cravings”. In our vision there is a strong reference to home, tradition and the land. A return to the roots and foundations of our culture.
What is your favorite project to date and why?
To date we do not have a favorite project, it is a path that changes over time, today we might like one piece more than another, tomorrow it will probably be another. We focus more on continuous growth and constant change, always remaining faithful to our philosophy.
How does your creative process take shape?
The creative process, we talked about it before, I can add that I think I make art instinctive, I don’t exactly design the object that I will make, this is defined as “in progress”, I only think about the concept I want to express and communicate, not to the final product.
What are you working on at the moment?
At the moment we have many new projects we are working on, we have started the creation of larger pieces than the previous ones and with a function more of design than decor. For example, a coffee table will come out. In the meantime we have also begun to familiarize ourselves with the world of carpets, and we are very, very attracted to glass blowing, who knows …
In which direction do you see the world of design going?
We think and hope that the world of design will come in our direction, that over time we will begin to appreciate “the real” again, not just “the beautiful”. We think that art is a reflection of society and of what happens in that particular historical period. In the moment of great change in which we find ourselves, more than ever we feel the need to focus and communicate something authentic and genuine, we try to take a step back and focus on what we think is important. Here, we believe that this will also happen in the field of design and we are positive, we have seen that something is finally moving.
