DEMANUMEA UNIQUE ARTBAGS PROJECT
An interview with Silvia Scaramucci, Creative Director and Designer of Demanumea:
How was your passion for fashion born? How did you take your first steps in this sector?
After my studies in the fashion industry and following an experience in a footwear company, I asked myself what I would like to do in the future on a personal level. The answer I gave myself was to make a different product, which was not already on the market. Thus in 2014 Demanumea was born, with the idea of bringing art and fashion closer, but also of rethinking the world of mass fashion and fast fashion: those we are talking about are slow products, in terms of workmanship and duration, which draw on tradition Marche, where leather treatment has its origins in the medieval age and today translates into a work that needs inventiveness, skill in the use of materials, design and heritage.
What are your sources of inspiration?
I am a curious incurable, I try to absorb everything around me and rework it to create something different. I usually draw inspiration from the world of design and art that has fascinated me since I was a child and I try to rework it in a “fashion” language.
What makes a Demanumea bag unique compared to the others?
Each Demanumea is a work that arises from the collaboration with an artist who personalizes part of the work with his artistic expression. This partnership gives rise to unique products that are always different as each artist adds his own experience, personality and talent to the work, transforming the product into a real but more repeatable work of art. Precisely for this reason, each product is unique in its kind as art is instinct, gesture and creative intuition outlined in a defined and therefore individual time space.
Three words to describe your brand.
UNIQUE, UNCONVENTIONAL, ARTISTIC.
The bag you are most proud of?
The model I love most is the newcomer Mya, not only for the design that enriches the Demanumea family but above all because it is a tribute to my newborn granddaughter: in fact Mya takes its name from her.
What story do you want to tell with your creations?
I want to tell the story of those who design and create, point by point, our works of art: young painters, sculptors, embroiderers, goldsmiths … in one word artists from all over the world who put their art at the service of Made in Italy with Demanumea. Each Demanumea product has a palladium plate inside which declares the article number, the name of the work and the signature of the artist who created it exclusively for us. Our products also include an “Artist Identity Kit”, thanks to which it is possible to view the artist’s curriculum, the video of the creation of the work, the technique used and the certification of non-reproducibility and authenticity. The genuine quality and complete transparency make our products guaranteed and timeless thanks to the selected materials completely made in Italy, such as the production.
What is the most useful / important thing you have learned?
The first and most important lesson that I always carry with me is that we must never give up, that the road is certainly hard but that those who work with passion and develop innovative projects find their space in the world, indeed they create it with their own hands. Certainly it is not an easy path because it collides with more standardized realities that perhaps reach success faster, but I am proud of the path we are following because it reflects the identity not only of mine but also of the artists who have contributed, who contribute which will contribute to making Demanumea unique.
New projects or ideas you are working on?
Many beautiful news, both from a distribution, corporate and creative point of view: we are working on a new Demanumea, but I can’t anticipate more! Keep following us!
How do you see your future?
I see it as my present: with passion and energy to do what I love with the people I love and to fight for my dreams.
